Quick Review of ViewSonic PJD7822HDL – An affordable Full HD projector for Home Entertainment

When it comes to buying a projector for home entertainment, a short-throw lens makes a lot of sense as it is ideal for small spaces, like a game room or home theater.

The short throw ratios mean it can be placed much closer to the screen than the long-throw projectors. Today we will see how the PJD7822HDL from ViewSonic makes it possible to create big pictures in small spaces while provides stunning image quality for entertainment.

Design

The projector does look slim and sleek. It also feels light to hold, yet has a certain weight behind it (2.1KG). To the front of the projector you will find a small infra-red port which sits next to the DLP lens and ViewSonic Logo. To the opposite side you get a front mounted fan. Above this you get zoom and focus controls to aid smaller living rooms; thus you can use the zoom control to get a wider image from a shorter distance.

P3

On the underside of the projector you have a mounting point if you want to attach the projector in a traditional fashion onto your ceiling. Additionally towards the front part there is a foot stand that can be adjusted to increase the elevation of the projector itself – when used from a desk.

The PJD7822HDL comes with two HDMI ports and a USB port, the latter of which is ideal if you plan on plugging in a Google Chromecast, as it will draw power from the projector when it’s on and automatically switch off when you turn that projector off. Beyond the input and USB port, you’ll find support for Full HD 1920×1080 at 60Hz, a brightness of 3200 lumens, and ViewSonic’s own “SuperColor” image enhancement technology.

I first used my PC to play some HD movie trailers from Youtube. The color matching was pretty good and the brightness was impressive! I could not detect any ghosting in moving images either and the blacks had easily enough depth.

I could not detect any ghosting here either

The good contrast with the PJD7822HDL lends itself well to the movie-watching experience.

Final thought

The PJD7822HDL is an attractive little box of tricks. It is a nice, compact home entertainment projector but can easily double as a portable business projector. It’s got the resolution (better than most business portables, 3200 lumens, built in speakers, zoom lens and weighs in at just slightly over 4.5 pounds, its light weight is great for travel. If you want an affordable, bright, colorful projector that you will hardly ever use in a truly dark room, then the PJD7822HDL is a compelling option.
