Toshiba announces a new, high-capacity addition to the MC04 Series launched in May of last year. The 6TB1 version of the MC04 Series of enterprise high-capacity HDDs is designed for bulk storage systems and servers supporting cloud-based applications and scale-out workloads. With an industry standard 3.5-inch form factor, the MC04 Series delivers 7,200 revolutions per minute (RPM) performance2, enabling suitable service levels for high performance cloud-based applications and storage.
Toshiba’s highest capacity enterprise cloud HDD delivers a 20 percent increase over the previous generation’s 5TB capacity, enabling more efficient high-density, high-growth storage for multi-petabyte rack deployments. Furthermore, the newest addition to the MC04 Series improves ROI for scale-out storage solutions with a 20 percent increase in power efficiency (TB/W) over previous generations, enabling more cost-effective delivery of cloud storage services.
The MC04 Series is also available in 2TB, 3TB, 4TB, and 5TB capacities and supports the industry-standard 180TB transferred per year workload rating, optimizing it for lower tier workloads in high capacity, scale-out cloud-based storage and server use cases. The entire MC04 Series of HDDs features SATA 6Gbit/s3 interface speeds and Advanced Format sector technology, enabling both higher aerial density and compatibility with legacy applications and operating environments.
“Today’s cloud-based infrastructures require cost-effective, increased storage capacity,” said Scott Wright, director of disk drive product marketing at Toshiba Storage Products Business Unit. “With up to 6TB capacity and 7,200 RPM performance, the Toshiba MC04 Series delivers an optimized balance of enterprise capacity, workload, and performance required by our customers’ high data growth cloud use-cases.”
“Toshiba’s MC04 Series proved very capable during our intense regression testing, while Toshiba’s responsive customer service greatly simplified our evaluation process,” said Paul Turner, chief marketing officer at Cloudian. “Toshiba’s breadth of capacity and 7,200 RPM performance positions us to build cost-efficient cloud storage that provides exceptional service levels to customers.”
